And so, Mr. Samira found himself telling her his life story of an immigrant florist who had found some measure of success on Decarie Blvd. in Ville St-Laurent. Samira's request led us to serve him a lovely platter containing nothing but beautifully cut fruit; no pancakes, no cheese, no french toast. Because it was his favourite breakfast in Beirut, back when his mother herself would bring him the little clear glass plate loaded with peaches, apricots and purple-fleshed figs.
Although our fruit plate contains other varieties of fresh fruit, we call it SAMIRA WAKE-UP in honour of the Lebanese florist, and have long illustrated it with a row of multicoloured tulips under the words.
