Un matin frisquet de mars 1990, alors que nous cherchons un nouveau d\u00e9jeuner pour comm\u00e9morer notre arriv\u00e9e sur le grand boulevard lavallois, Julia invente le d\u00e9lice qui obtiendra rapidement le plus de succ\u00e8s parmi les plats au menu.<\/p>\n
Comme presque tous les samedis dans ce temps-l\u00e0, Julia arrive au travail en retard, encore \u00e9tourdie par le terrible tango qu\u2019elle a dans\u00e9 toute la nuit avec ses amis \u00c9velyne, Maryse, Pablo, Caroline, Juan et Domingo.<\/p>\n
Pour se soustraire \u00e0 la double r\u00e9primande de sa maman-patron, ma fille se r\u00e9fugie, d\u00e8s son arriv\u00e9e, dans la conversation anim\u00e9e du boulanger qui nous apporte justement les fameuses brioches \u00e0 la cannelle et aux raisins que nous recherchons depuis peu. Julia empoigne une grosse brioche, la palpe et d\u00e9cide de la trancher en plein milieu dans le sens de la largeur. Elle trempe ensuite les deux demies obtenues dans le m\u00e9lange \u00e0 pain dor\u00e9 aromatis\u00e9 et les couche d\u00e9licatement sur la plaque de cuisson. Les morceaux commencent \u00e0 frissonner de peur, puis, peu \u00e0 peu, c\u00e9dant \u00e0 l\u2019embrassade enflamm\u00e9e, le pain se transforme en un surprenant d\u00e9lice. Au moment o\u00f9 Julia soul\u00e8ve avec la spatule les deux morceaux de brioche dor\u00e9s pour les faire glisser dans la grande assiette blanche, dame Gourmandise lance une fl\u00e9chette magique dans l\u2019\u0153il de ma fille. Du coup, le regard de cette derni\u00e8re p\u00e9tille si fort que m\u00eame monsieur Leboeuf, notre nouveau boulanger lavallois, comprend que Julia vient d\u2019avoir une id\u00e9e brillante. Lorsque celle-ci d\u00e9pose un bel \u0153uf miroir et deux tranches de bacon sur un c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la brioche dor\u00e9e, le rythme de ma respiration diminue tragiquement. La magicienne \u00e0 moiti\u00e9 endormie se pr\u00e9cipite ensuite au comptoir de fruits et d\u00e9core l\u2019autre demie d\u2019une grosse montagne de fruits frais.<\/p>\n

My daughter Julia was the one to invent the treat that quickly came to be one of the most successful dishes on our menu.\r\n\r\nLike almost every Saturday back then, Julia arrived to work late, once again absent-minded from the wild tango she\u2019d danced the whole night before with her friends Evelyne, Maryse, Marco, Caroline, Juan and Domingo.\r\n\r\nTo escape the double reprimand she\u2019d get from me, her boss\/mother, as soon as she walked in the door, my daughter took refuge in a conversation with the baker who was supplying us with the famous cinnamon raisin brioche we\u2019d recently been searching for. Julia grabbed one of the big brioches, squeezed it and decided to slice it through the middle. She then dunked the two halves in the spiced French toast batter and gently laid them on the griddle. The pieces of bread shivered in fear, but little by little they gave in to the fiery kiss of the grill and were transformed into a surprising treat. Just when Julia was lifting the two golden pieces of brioche to place them on a big white plate, inspiration gave my daughter a little push. It made her eyes sparkle so brightly that even Mr. Leboeuf, our new Laval baker, understood that Julia had just had a brilliant idea. She placed a sunny side up egg and two slices of bacon on one side of the golden brioche and decorated the other half of the plate with a big mountain of fresh fruit.\r\n
