C\u2019est avec grand plaisir que je m\u2019appr\u00eate \u00e0 cocher un autre des souhaits que j\u2019y avais not\u00e9! J\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de faire une croisi\u00e8re. Oui, oui! \u00c0 l\u2019automne, je prendrai la mer sur un immense bateau nomm\u00e9 Coral\u00a0Princess pour visiter l\u2019Alaska, ses immenses glaciers, Seward, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, la route vers l\u2019or et le parc des immenses totems.<\/p>\n<p>Quelque quatorze dodos sur l\u2019eau, des villages de p\u00eacheurs pittoresques et plusieurs endroits pour observer les baleines. Peut-\u00eatre qu\u2019enfin, quelques-unes se pr\u00e9senteront \u00e0 moi nez \u00e0 nez? Moi qui ai fait le tour de ma Gasp\u00e9sie natale une douzaine de fois, je n\u2019en ai encore jamais vu!<\/p>\n<p>En Colombie-Britannique, la veille de l\u2019embarquement, une visite de la belle grande ville de Vancouver et de \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019unique Granville Island\u00a0\u00bb, ainsi qu\u2019un souper et une nuit\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4tel sont pr\u00e9vus. Puis, le lendemain matin, ce sera le grand d\u00e9part sur l\u2019immense bateau de croisi\u00e8re. Wow! Quelle magnifique aventure je vivrai avant de m\u2019envoler!<\/p>\n<p>Je ne peux pas encore vous d\u00e9crire mon installation \u00e0 bord du navire, mais je me suis renseign\u00e9e aupr\u00e8s de voyageurs qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 amplement satisfaits. Comme j\u2019ai en main la documentation offerte par l\u2019agence concernant le parcours en mer et les arr\u00eats sur terre, je peux succinctement vous d\u00e9crire le voyage de r\u00eave que je m\u2019appr\u00eate \u00e0 vivre.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 notre premier arr\u00eat \u00e0 Icy Strait Point, nous mettrons pied \u00e0 terre pour assister \u00e0 un spectacle interactif retra\u00e7ant la vie des habitants de la r\u00e9gion \u00e0 travers leurs danses et leurs contes. J\u2019ai tellement h\u00e2te d\u2019en apprendre davantage!<\/p>\n<p>Et vogue, vogue le temps, le cinqui\u00e8me jour en mer, nous naviguerons le long d\u2019un immense glacier, surnomm\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0le g\u00e9ant endormi\u00a0\u00bb. \u00c0 ce qu\u2019en disent tous ceux qui ont fait cette croisi\u00e8re, ils \u00e9taient abasourdis devant autant de blanc et de bleu flamboyant devant leurs yeux. Je prendrai mille et une photos, c\u2019est certain. Nous accosterons dans la petite ville de Sitka compos\u00e9e d\u2019un m\u00e9lange unique d\u2019histoire russe, tlingit et am\u00e9ricaine. Un v\u00e9ritable paysage de carte postale m\u2019attend avec ses pics enneig\u00e9s, son mont volcanique, sa faune rare et ses oiseaux magnifiques \u00e0 gros bec orange. Je raffole des oiseaux rares et je vais certainement les photographier.<\/p>\n<p>Le sixi\u00e8me jour, nous naviguerons le long du glacier Hubbard dont la largeur en front de mer atteint pr\u00e8s de 10\u00a0kilom\u00e8tres. Comme nous serons accompagn\u00e9s d\u2019un guide sp\u00e9cialiste de l\u2019Alaska, rien ne devrait nous \u00e9chapper.<\/p>\n<p>Le septi\u00e8me jour, nous accosterons dans un petit village de p\u00eacheurs id\u00e9al pour l\u2019observation des baleines et la d\u00e9couverte d\u2019une nature pr\u00e9serv\u00e9e, notamment au parc national de Glacier Bay. Je n\u2019en peux plus d\u2019attendre.<\/p>\n<p>Le huiti\u00e8me jour, nous voguerons tout doucement dans une immense baie pr\u00e8s des glaciers \u00e9blouissants et des eaux \u00e9meraude. Ce paysage f\u00e9\u00e9rique restera tr\u00e8s certainement grav\u00e9 dans ma m\u00e9moire.<\/p>\n<p>Aux neuvi\u00e8me et dixi\u00e8me jours, selon le programme, nous marcherons en sol am\u00e9ricain pour visiter les vestiges de l\u2019\u00e9poque de la ru\u00e9e vers l\u2019or et ses vieux b\u00e2timents. Puis, nous explorerons Juneau, la capitale de cet \u00e9tat am\u00e9ricain parfois appel\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0la petite San Francisco\u00a0\u00bb. On y trouve le tramway Goldbelt du mont Roberts qui nous \u00e9l\u00e8ve en t\u00e9l\u00e9ph\u00e9rique \u00e0 1800\u00a0pieds dans les airs. Moi qui ai tellement peur des hauteurs, je pense que je m\u2019abstiendrai m\u00eame au prix d\u2019un panorama remarquable! On invite aussi les plus aventureux \u00e0 survoler le paysage en hydravion. Non, merci!<\/p>\n<p>Le onzi\u00e8me jour, nous d\u00e9couvrirons la ville tr\u00e8s typique de Ketchikan, le parc des totems, les ruelles de Creek Street et l\u2019ancien quartier chaud o\u00f9 r\u00e9gnaient les trafiquants d\u2019alcool. J\u2019emmagasinerai tellement de souvenirs!<\/p>\n<p>Il para\u00eetrait que la nourriture sur le bateau, selon les habitu\u00e9s, est sublime! J\u2019ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 faim! Toute petite, dans la chaloupe, j\u2019allais \u00e0 la p\u00eache avec grand-p\u00e8re Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric et il me f\u00e9licitait \u00ab\u00a0d\u2019avoir le pied marin\u00a0\u00bb. Dans la chambrette qui m\u2019est allou\u00e9e sur l\u2019h\u00f4tel flottant, je disposerai d\u2019un balcon et de deux chaises d\u2019o\u00f9 je compte bien scruter l\u2019horizon \u00e0 l\u2019infini. J\u2019implorerai, je suppose, ciel et mer pour entrevoir une v\u00e9ritable baleine. De mon observatoire, au milieu de l\u2019oc\u00e9an, verrai-je des oiseaux g\u00e9ants, des manchots empereurs, des albatros hurleurs, le dos d\u2019une baleine sortant de la vague, un banc de colins d\u2019Alaska faciles \u00e0 attraper?<\/p>\n<p>Voil\u00e0! Well, I\u2019m excited to announce that I\u2019m about to check off another one of my goals! In the fall, I\u2019m setting sail on a large cruise ship called the Coral Princess to visit Alaska, its gigantic glaciers, Seward, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, the gold rush route and the state park with towering totem poles.\r\n\r\nI\u2019ll spend 14 nights on the water, explore picturesque fishing villages and visit whale-watching spots. Maybe I\u2019ll come nose to nose with one? I\u2019ve toured my native Gasp\u00e9sie over a dozen times and I\u2019ve never even seen a whale!\r\n\r\nOur departure point is beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. The day before we leave, we\u2019ll tour the city and charming Granville Island before enjoying a group dinner. The next morning, the large cruise ship pulls anchor and we\u2019ll be off. I\u2019m ecstatic! What a great adventure to have before my final voyage.\r\n\r\nI can\u2019t describe the accommodations aboard the floating hotel yet, but I\u2019ve inquired with a few fellow travellers and they give them glowing reviews. I can at least share with you the highlights from the travel agency brochure of this once-in-a-lifetime trip I\u2019ll soon be embarking upon.\r\n\r\nWe\u2019ll first make port at Icy Strait Point to take in an interactive show retracing the lives of the region\u2019s original inhabitants through their dances and legends. I\u2019m so eager to learn more!\r\n\r\nWith time sailing along, we\u2019ll reach a huge glacier nicknamed \u201cthe sleeping giant\u201d on the fifth day. According to those who\u2019ve already been on this cruise, it astounds the eyes with its vast whiteness and vibrant blue. I\u2019ll take a thousand and one pictures, that\u2019s for sure. We\u2019ll moor in the small town of Sitka, with its unique blend of Russian, Tlingit and American culture. I can look forward to a postcard-perfect setting composed of snowy white mountains, a volcanic mountain, rare fauna and magnificent birds with large orange beaks. I love rare birds, and I\u2019ll definitely take photos of them.\r\n\r\nOn the sixth day, we\u2019ll carefully come alongside Hubbard Glacier, who\u2019s width measures almost 10 kilometres. Since we\u2019ll be accompanied by an expert guide, we shouldn\u2019t miss a single thing.\r\n\r\nOn the seventh day, we\u2019ll dock in a small fishing village, ideal for whale watching and discovering unspoilt nature, notably in Glacier Bay National Park. I just can\u2019t wait!\r\n\r\nOn the eighth day, we\u2019ll sail smoothly through a vast bay of dazzling glaciers and emerald waters. Enchanting scenery that will no doubt remain engraved in my memory.\r\n\r\nOn the ninth and tenth days of the itinerary, we\u2019ll put our feet on American soil again to visit the vestiges of the gold rush era and its old buildings. Then we\u2019re off to Juneau, or \u201clittle San Francisco\u201d as it is known, the capital of the American state. That\u2019s where the Mount Roberts Goldbelt Tram will lift us over 1,800 feet in the air. I\u2019m so terrified of heights, I think I\u2019ll pass on the cable car ride even if it means missing out on the remarkable panorama! Braver souls are also invited to fly over the area in a seaplane. No, thanks!\r\n\r\nOn the eleventh day, we\u2019ll discover the typical town of Ketchikan, the totem pole park, the alleys of historic Creek Street and the former red light district where bootleggers once ruled. I\u2019m going to strike it rich in memorable moments!\r\n\r\nAccording to those who\u2019ve already been aboard, the food on the liner is sublime. When I was just a small girl accompanying Grandpa Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric in the rowboat, he\u2019d congratulate me for \u201chaving sea legs.\u201d My small room on the floating hotel has a balcony with 2 chairs, where I plan on spending time scouring the endless horizon. I\u2019ll likely implore the heavens and seas to bring me a whale. From my observatory in the middle of the ocean, will I see giant birds, emperor penguins, shrieking albatrosses, the back of a breaching whale, a school of Alaskan pollock that I can reach out and catch?\r\n\r\nVoil\u00e0!
