Alors, ma chère Mel, je vais te raconter cette histoire et aussi t’expliquer comment le faire à la maison si tu en as tellement envie.<\/p>\n
Ce Bobby, grand jeune homme, magnifiquement beau et athlétique, fut le premier client dont la personnalité revêche s’imprima dans ma mémoire. Car Bobby avait la fâcheuse manie de ne jamais oublier la petite cuillère d’argent avec laquelle il était sorti du précieux ventre de dame Leon Lahoud, riche commerçante du parc industriel de l’arrondissement. Cet enfant gâté aurait rechigné sur le lait maternel si la décence lui en eût donné la permission.<\/p>\n
C’est le dessinateur de boutons de l’entreprise familiale qui avait fait connaître notre resto à Bobby. Et celui-ci raffola immédiatement de notre nourriture. Mais c’était toujours lui qui trouvait le petit caillou dans la soupe aux pois du vendredi, une minuscule larme de sang sur la crinoline de son œuf ou, pire encore, un véritable poil d’homo sapiens, qui le faisait bondir de sa chaise indigné et nous exhorter sur le champs de changer son assiette.<\/p>\n
À chacune de ses visites, Bobby exigeait un déjeuner spécial. Du bacon à la place du jambon, du vrai beurre au lieu de la margarine, du fromage Brie au lieu de notre délicieux cheddar... et patati et patata; l’homme avait toujours un changement à nous faire faire avant de lui apporter son assiette. Et Marie, notre serveuse aguerrie, ruait dans les brancards chaque fois parce que c’était interdit de déplaire à un client ou d’être impolie.<\/p>\n
Et voici qu’un chaud samedi matin de fin juillet, alors que le petit resto était déjà presque plein, Bobby arriva en jogging bleu pâle et camisole assortie, ce qui permettait d’admirer ses biceps amplement provocateurs.<\/p>\n
C’est ma fille, en devoir au resto le weekend, qui approcha l’Adonis en quête d’admiration.<\/p>\n
– Touche, dit-il, c’est aussi dur que du fer.<\/p>\n
Et ce fut le magnifique sourire de ma fille qui illumina la bouille de notre Bobby, qui insistait pour goûter à quelque chose de nouveau.<\/p>\n

Pour moi, Bobby avait juste besoin qu’on saupoudre sa table d’un peu plus d’affection que les autres. Et ma fille était la championne qui comprenait cela.<\/p>\n
– Explique-moi, Bobby. Tu voudrais tes habituelles crêpes, mais tu voudrais aussi ta bonne omelette aux épinards pour tes beaux biceps?<\/p>\n
– Maman, me lance-t-elle, Bobby voudrait une belle omelette aux épinards servie entre deux grandes crêpes à la farine blanche.<\/p>\n
J’allais moi-même remercier le blanc-bec lorsqu’il se leva et tendit le cou vers ma cuisine.<\/p>\n
– Bobby, lui dis-je. C’est une idée géniale que tu viens d’avoir.<\/p>\n
Servir une belle grosse omelette entre deux grandes crêpes.<\/p>\n
Je n’y aurais jamais pensé par moi-même.<\/p>\n
Et le jeune homme de gonfler le torse et d’amollir son faciès en un magnifique sourire en allant tranquillement se rassoir à sa place. C’est quand même assez extraordinaire comment un peu d’affection peut transformer le pire des bougons; comment quelques gouttes d’attention sincère peuvent attendrir le pire des chialeurs.<\/p>\n
Après avoir étendu du fromage sur l’omelette, je l’ai bien cachée entre les deux grandes crêpes cuites juste à point et j’ai ensuite coupé le tout en quatre gros triangles pour pouvoir les installer sur la grande assiette oblongue dans laquelle nous servions habituellement les grandes crêpes. Et cela a tout de suite eu l’air d’un gros club sandwich aplati. Il m’a suffi d’ajouter une montagne de fruits frais gentiment coupés pour remplacer les frites et notre client récalcitrant jubila de bonheur en voyant l’assiette atterrir sur sa table, entre couteau et fourchette.<\/p>\n
Ma fille suggéra d’appeler le nouveau plat le Bobby Button Morning Club et nous fûmes tous d’accord avec elle.<\/p>\n
Notre Bobby était tellement fier de nous avoir inspiré cette magnifique idée qu’il amena par la suite des dizaines de nouveaux clients chaque semaine pour leur présenter sa création. Tout le monde de l’arrondissement industriel parlait du nouveau plat du manufacturier libanais, et tout un chacun voulait l’essayer.<\/p>\n
Et pendant vingt-cinq ans d’affilée, nous avons servi des millions de Bobby Botton jusqu’à ce que mon équipe d’experts-cuisiniers insiste pour que nous puissions expérimenter d’autres plats de crêpes bien garnies. Ainsi nous avons mis au menu les Déjeuners sur crêpes, les Panini-crêpes, les Crêpes Omelettes, les Sarrasin- Surprise, les crêpes Burrito et les délicieux Hot Dogs matin. Et, pour ne pas trop décevoir nos clients nostalgiques, nous avons décidé de ramener, à l'occasion, nos vedettes «old-timer» en promotion et pour un temps limité.<\/p>\n

It looked like a big flat club sandwich. I then added a mountain of freshly cut fruit instead of fries. Our difficult young Adonis was delighted when the plate was placed in front of him, between his knife and fork. My daughter suggested we name the new dish Bobby Button Morning Club. We were all in agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So proud was Bobby to have inspired this great dish that he brought dozens of new customers each week to try his creation. The new dish by the Lebanese manufacturer was on the lips of everyone who worked in the industrial area.
